The āWA 2ā cultivar, a result of a āSplendourā x āGalaā cross, is the first apple breed released from the WSU apple breeding program. Its high quality taste, appearance, and productivity make it a promising cultivar in Washington State. With an orange-red to pinkish-red blush covering 70-90% of the skin surface and large, noticeable lenticels, āWA 2ā stands out from other cultivars and has an appealing appearance. It has a round shape and is a medium-large size, larger than āGalaā but comparable to āBraeburnā and smaller than āFujiā. The fruit has a crisp, firm texture and is very juicy, maintaining its firmness in storage and on the shelf. āWA 2ā ripens between late September and early October and is well-suited for both the fresh market and long-term storage.
